Enrollment Procedures and Admission Requirements
How to ApplyTo apply for admission at Ex’pression applicants must complete the following requirements:
Application Form & FeeYou can request an application form from an Admissions Representative or you can apply online at www.expression.edu/admissions and click on “Apply Now.” A $95 non-refundable application fee (please see refund policy for further details) must accompany your completed application form.
Personal EssayA brief essay, typed in English, describing the reasons and motivation for your interest in the program for which you are applying must accompany your application. This essay allows Ex’pression to gain an understanding of your interests and to learn more about you.
Official TranscriptsAn official sealed transcript from your high school showing evidence of graduation or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or a high school equivalency certificate such as the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) must accompany your application. In special circumstances a copy of your high school diploma may be accepted.
For home-schooled applicants: please submit documentation that outlines the curriculum studied. This may be in the form of course syllabi or a transcript from a recognized home-schooling agency. If documentation is not possible, GED or CHSPE scores must be submitted.
For students who have earned an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education: you need not submit transcripts from your high school, but must submit a transcript from your college showing evidence of graduation.
For students with prior college credit wishing to transfer credit: please see the Transfer of Credit Policy.
All transcripts must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation of the original.
Portfolio or Drawing Test – For those applying to the Animation and Visual Effects, Game Art & Design or Motion Graphic Design Programs onlyYou must submit for review a portfolio of your work representing your art experience. If you feel you do not have a sufficient portfolio you may schedule an appointment with your Admissions Representative to take a short drawing test. The portfolio or drawing test allows Ex’pression to gain an understanding of both your experience and your creative potential.
If you choose to submit a portfolio we require 3 pieces (replicas – DO NOT send originals, as they may not be returned to you) of your choice in traditional media (Painting, pencil, photography, mixed media, etc.) and 3 original pencil life-studies (these must be originals).
Ex’pression understands that students have diverse artistic backgrounds. Portfolios and drawing tests are evaluated on an individual basis, keeping in mind the educational background and experiences of each applicant.
Interview and Tour of the SchoolYou must meet with an Admissions Representative (more than one meeting may occur) and complete an interview and tour of the school, completion of an admissions questionnaire is requested at this time, but not required for admittance. Interviews are approximately one hour in length and include a review of the questionnaire (if applicable), and a presentation of relevant program information.
Test ScoresYou must schedule a time with Ex’pression to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills test, unless you have a degree earned at an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education; if the institution is a foreign institution, it must be recognized by the federal government of that nation.
A passing score is required for admittance to the College.
Please note that calculators are not permitted when taking the Wonderlic Basic Skills test.
